Tesla has started selling its plug-in electric vehicle, Model S to its customers in Australia.

Apart from unveiling the car, the company also opened its first Sydney retail store and inaugurated 10-station supercharging station for users to charge their electric vehicles.

The car will be sold for $117,000 with standard feature, and if customers adds additional features like dual motor, autopilot feature, autonomously steering, the price would increase to $200,000.

The Guardian cited Tesla's Australian spokesman Heath Walker saying: "It's the fastest accelerating four-door sedan ever built."

Walker added: "Tesla plans to unveil a further eight superchargers between Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney in 2015, allowing the vehicle to make interstate trips.

" By 2016 the company hopes to extend the charger network to Brisbane.

"The Gigafactory, a lithium ion battery plant the company is building in Nevada, scheduled to begin production in 2017."
